Over 350 Louisville Homes are Warmer Thanks to Project Warm

Over 900 Volunteers Participate in 18th Annual Blitz

During the months of October and November, over 900 volunteers participated
in one of 8 Project Warm Blitz Days weatherizing over 350 homes of
low-income seniors & disabled persons in Louisville. With Natural Gas
prices at historic highs, these events provided a valuable service to the
community by making homes more comfortable, reducing home heating costs, and
providing a personal way for Louisvillians to get to know one another.

Three of the Blitz days were sponsored by members of Louisville's Jewish
community. Two of the days were open to any volunteers and one was for the
employees of Jewish Family & Career Services as part of their annual
employee volunteer outreach. Over 50 volunteers participated in the 3
days, including 3 students that will have their Bar/Bat Mitzvah this year.
Over 40 homes were served. "I was both thrilled and touched by the number
of people in our community who were willing to commit so much time and
energy to this program," said Aly Goldberg, one of the event coordinators.
"The clients greatly appreciated the difference that was made in their
lives. Just as the temperatures began to drop we were there to stop the
drafts and enable them to lower their thermostats, both saving them money
and helping to keep them warm this winter."

Since 1982, Project Warm has provided free weatherization services for
low-income people who could no longer afford their high utility bills.
These services range from just hanging plastic over windows to repairing
broken glass to installing weather stripping and changing furnace filters.
In 1990, Project began holding annual Blitzes during which they focus on a
few days to get as many volunteers as possible to put up plastic on windows
before the worst weather hits.
