MaAfrika Tikkun partnered with SAUJS, Limmud and the Orange Farm community to hold the first Heritage day Community Build project. It was a chance for people from vastly different cultures to interact and work together in the process of help to uplift the impoverished Orange Farm community. We built a swing set, planted trees, donated a jungle gym and painted a mural. The Orange Farm community was involved in all the activities. This gave both the Jewish community and the orange farm community a…

Never forget.
This mantra is the main message of the Holocaust, a testament to the bravery of all those who suffered and died as a result of Nazi rule, a safeguard to ensure that this part of history will never repeat itself.
Today, however, nearly 60 years later, aging Holocaust survivors must face an ironic fate: being forgotten. In theory, of course, the memory of the Holocaust is still very much alive. Media coverage on the subject is frequent, and museums and memorials dedicated to its vict…

Andrew Roth
The unsung hero is a champion who deserves to shine, writes Erica Morris - the everyday person who works to change their corner of the world, be it through charity work, selfless giving or random acts of kindness, with no thought to reward or recognition.
But their efforts don't go unnoticed and this week, the Jewish News is launching its annual search for an outstanding individual who will be honoured as our Community Hero 2008.
To help us choose a worthy winner, this year we've jo…

Post-Election Community Engagement Project
ACCESS’s dialogue with the NY Urban League Young Professionals takes on a new dimension through a hands-on community service project in Washington Heights organized through the NY Restoration Project. This rebuilding project also marks the 70th anniversary of Kristallnacht – a meaningful time for us to reflect on the past and future.

Almost every Friday for the last month, Kara Zucker and Lindsey Caplan of CU Boulder Hillel have led a group of students through the process of packaging up Shabbat dinners and delivering them to local elderly people in need.
About 10 students have participated by coming to Hillel, wrapping up the food, and then splitting up into small groups to deliver it to the homes. CU Hillel partners with the local Jewish Family Services to find out who to deliver to.

Nov. 4, 2008
Ehud Zion Waldoks , THE JERUSALEM POST
The Arava Power Company (APC) announced Monday an agreement to utilize kibbutz land in the Arava and the Negev for solar fields generating at least 500 MW, and eventually one gigawatt (GW) or more - a move which could potentially revolutionize Israel's energy market and put the country solidly on the path of electricity from renewable sources.

Shma_Oct.pdf
Dear Friends,
The October Sh'ma focuses on trafficking — the coerced labor affecting women, children, and men worldwide. Though politically trafficking usually is associated with involuntary sex work, it is, in fact, a far more complex phenomenon involving many forms of coerced agricultural, factory, sexual, and domestic labor. Julia Neuberger's government commission on volunteering offers us a vision: a society in which people enrich their lives by enriching the lives of others through the giving of time.
On Mitzvah Day (16 November) we ask people to give time, not money - a recipe for the most heartening example of community spirit and collective action.
Our charities rely on armies of volunteers giving time. Volunteers drive, visit, collect things, bake, run events and entertain. People want to volunteer but they d…
