MaAfrika Tikkun partnered with SAUJS, Limmud and the Orange Farm community to hold the first Heritage day Community Build project. It was a chance for people from vastly different cultures to interact and work together in the process of help to uplift the impoverished Orange Farm community. We built a swing set, planted trees, donated a jungle gym and painted a mural. The Orange Farm community was involved in all the activities. This gave both the Jewish community and the orange farm community a…

Today, however, nearly 60 years later, aging Holocaust survivors must face an ironic fate: being forgotten. In theory, of course, the memory of the Holocaust is still very much alive. Media coverage on the subject is frequent, and museums and memorials dedicated to its vict…

The unsung hero is a champion who deserves to shine, writes Erica Morris - the everyday person who works to change their corner of the world, be it through charity work, selfless giving or random acts of kindness, with no thought to reward or recognition.
But their efforts don't go unnoticed and this week, the Jewish News is launching its annual search for an outstanding individual who will be honoured as our Community Hero 2008.
To help us choose a worthy winner, this year we've jo…

Almost every Friday for the last month, Kara Zucker and Lindsey Caplan of CU Boulder Hillel have led a group of students through the process of packaging up Shabbat dinners and delivering them to local elderly people in need.
About 10 students have participated by coming to Hillel, wrapping up the food, and then splitting up into small groups to deliver it to the homes. CU Hillel partners with the local Jewish Family Services to find out who to deliver to.
