- What causes do you address/are you passionate about in the Jewish world or in general?
- Queens College Hillel strives to enrich the lives of the nearly 4,000 Jewish undergraduate and graduate students so that they may enrich the Jewish people and the world. QC Hillel helps students find a balance in being distinctively Jewish and universally human by encouraging them to pursue Tzedek (social justice), Tikkun Olam (repairing the world) and Jewish learning, and to support Israel and global Jewish peoplehood.
- What do you plan to do for JSAM 2008?
- 1. Social Justice through Jewish Lenses Series; a 4 week workshop series focusing on the Jewish definition of Tzedakah and Tikkun Olam, discussing the centrality of social justice to Judaism, and learning Jewish text sources on what does Judaism say about poverty and our obligation to fight it.
2. Food packaging and distribution in Kew Garden Hills with the QJCC; Student will package food for families.
3. Meals on Wheels- Food distribution with the QJCC; Students will deliver meals for home-bound seniors in Queens.
4. Challah for Hunger; Student will bake and sale Challah weekly on campus to raise awareness of and money for hunger and disaster relief.
5. Clothing Drive; Students will donate clothing and toiletries that they will bring to the homeless of NYC during Midnight Run.
6. Interfaith Sandwich Making and Midnight Run; Students will pack food and sort clothing to distribute to the homeless of NYC.
