Good Deed of the Day #16

Do you have books you no longer want or need? Don't just throw them away. Do good deeds by donating those books to your local library or elder care facility. Everyone has books they no longer want or need, and someone else would love to read those books.

Good Deed of the Day #15
Make a difference to the elderly - not only can you give your seat to an elder on the bus, you could:

a) go to an old age home and play mah jong or poker with the elders.
b) go to an old age home with nail polish in hand, and paint the ladies' fingernails
c) take an elder out for a walk in the park

Highlighted Project of the Day
From overseas and in Israel, you can support CLICK, which strives to improve senior citizen's quality of life by providing vocational, social and cultural services. How to support? CLICK established an innovative social entrepreneurial enterprise called < http://www.click-savi.org.il/> SAVI, a handicraft venture. - Give employees a paid half-day from work to volunteer somewhere
- Arrange for your workplace cafeteria to send left-over food to a homeless shelter
- Arrange for caterers to donate surplus food to those in need
- Check that your workplace has ethical employment policies and pays the minimum wage -your idea here....

Do your good deed for the day, without it costing you a penny! Visit sites like TheRainforestSite.com or TheHungerSite.com and click the donate button. The money donated comes from like minded giving/green/eco-friendly companies that pay to place advertising on these sites, it doesn't cost you anything!

Today's good deed is to wait the two minutes it takes to shut down your computer because it makes a huge difference. According to change the world 9 to 5, one computer left on all day results in the emission of 1500 pounds of carbon dioxide in a year. It takes between 100-500 trees to absorb that much carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

Good Deed of the Day #10
It is very easy to hop into your car to go to work, run errands, etc, but take a minute to think first.

Consider walking; when you are going somewhere locally for an errand - not only are you saving the environment but you are also getting healthy. If you are going slightly further then catch on a bus or a train.

So don't just drive without thought, look for alternative methods

Good Deed of the Day #9

Don't waste food! At home, one can use certain food items for composting at events, big or small and food can donated to people in need. You can buy a separate grocery item every time you shop, and donate it to people in need.

Project Highlight
In israel, Table to Table
(www.tabletotable.org.il) does food rescue all the time, day and night, from events, offices, army bases, and uses a cadre of volunteers to pick produce in the fields.
